Four Winds and Third Grade Learning Buddies

Reminder: Stuffie Day Monday, September 30th!!  Your child may bring a small stuffie to school on Monday to celebrate their many safe, kind, and responsible choices in the classroom.  Please see the note in your child's Friday Folder for details.

Four Winds

We had our first Four Winds science lesson with Ms. Lawrence and Ms. Carris on Tuesday and it was incredible!  Kindergartners enjoyed a puppet show to learn about the varying structures and functions of spiders.  Then they got to look at real spiders with magnifying glasses and finally release them outside in our Reading Garden.  Thank you Ms. Lawrence and Ms. Carris for providing this wonderful experience for our Kindergartners!

Third Grade Learning Buddies

Today was a special treat because the Kindergartners met their new third grade learning buddies from Ms. Poncelet's class.  We read a book about making connections and celebrating differences (Odd Velvet by Mary Whitcomb).  Then we used a venn-diagram structure to discover our own connections and differences in pairs and trios.  So fun!  We will see our Learning Buddies twice a month and have many different types of learning experiences together.

Home Reading Program/5 Frames

Today we went to the library to learn about our home reading program.  Your child is bringing a home to work on reading with you.  They are welcome to bring the book back tomorrow to get another one to help grow their reading skills.

In math, we worked with a five frame to build a variety of numbers.

Recycle Rhonda and Open House

Open House is on Tuesday, September 17th from 6:00pm-7:00pm.  This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to share a bit of their classroom life with you.  We understand the importance of getting your child to bed, so we are not expecting you to stay for the full hour; You may arrive and leave any time between 6:00-7:00pm that is convenient for your family's schedule.  We can't wait to see you!

Recycle Rhonda came to visit today and teach kindergartners how to be Planet Protectors by composting, and recycling correctly.  So fun!

Ask your child where to put floppy plastic like a wrapper (trash), old food (compost), or a piece of paper (recycling).  Napkins go in compost!
