Thinking Like a Scientist

Reminder: There is no school Monday January 21st due to teacher professional development.

Today our Mystery Reader was Mrs. Valastro! She read Rainbow Fish by: Marcus Pfister. We loved listening to her and learned about more about kindness and sharing!
Adult reading to students
We were scientists later in the day discovering more about force and motion! We experimented with the amount of force used to push cars on the rug and tile. We also tested out ramps and their heights to see if we could make the cars go even farther! Some students worked in teams to create different surfaces with the white boards and ramps to make the cars move.

Ask your child how they can make a car go farther!

Have a fantastic weekend,
Miss. Turnbaugh

Shapes Shapes Everywhere!

This week we are learning about shapes! Today we explored the characteristics of circles and spheres using modeling clay. We discovered that spheres are round like balls and we can turn them into circles by flattening the spheres with our hands or pencils. Shapes are all around us and we realized that we see both circles and spheres at school or at home all the time! We ended math today by creating everyday objects with all of the shapes we have been learning about! -Miss Turnbaugh

Ask your child what circles they see at home.

Fun with Force and Motion

Today Mrs. Sullivan joined our class as this week's mystery reader! We enjoyed hearing "The Book With No Pictures" and laughing at all the silly words in it!

We have started a new science unit focused on Force and Motion. Today we explored how our bodies moved by dancing as a warm up. We also explored the properties of push and pull with toy cars.

Ask you child about one way they used the push force to make a car move!

Snow Many Ideas!

Kindergartners brainstormed a wealth of ways to play in the snow and help everyone have so much fun at recess.  Then we rounded out the hard work with snowflakes!

Thank you to our Mystery Reader of the Week, Mrs. Clements and for sharing the wonderful book If I Built a House by Chris Van Dusen.  So engaging and imaginative!
