Learning Sign Language, Kindness Club, and Food Drive

Kindergartners are working with first graders in Mr. Neil's class to create a Kindness Club.  Everyday, students pick a new kindness challenge out of the box and try to be kind that day.
Ask your child how they have been kind!

We had so much fun learning sign language with Mrs. Lawrence around kindness and manners.  Check your Friday Folder for a packet with all the signs we learned!
Ask your child to show you one of the signs they learned!

Thinking Like Scientists

Learning Break Challenge
We introduced your child to a Learning Break Challenge today to help them keep their brains strong and their learning on track over the break.  Every time they complete a challenge written on a leaf, they can color in that leaf.  Help your child do this fun challenge and bring it back to school for a fun classroom surprise!

Learning About Worms
Kindergartners have been practicing asking questions and thinking like a scientist, by making observations and designing experiments.  They have also been gathering vocabulary words and doing research during Reader's Workshop.

We finally got to test our experiment to see if worms prefer to be underground because it is wet and dark.  We designed an experiment with wet paper towels and card tents to test whether the worms preferred to be on or off the wet paper towel and whether they preferred to be under or out of the card tent when the lights were on in the classroom.  Then we practiced creating scientific drawings with labels and questions.  They already have ideas for new science experiments with worms!

Ask your child what they discovered about their worms!

Learning Buddies and ABC School

Learning Buddies
Kindergartners practiced reading their just right books to their third grade buddies today.  They were also wonderful listeners as their third grade buddies read a book to them.  It was fun listening to the book talks occurring all over the room!

ABC School
Kindergartners are now experts at using and reading an Alphabet Chart.  We have been exploring letters, sounds, and different alphabet charts.  Today, the kindergartners became the teachers and the students were stuffies!  Those stuffies learned how to read the ABC chart, sing the ABC chart, name all the letters and sounds, and write the alphabet.  There is an extra alphabet chart in your child's Friday Folder so they can play school with their own stuffies at home and show you how to play ABC School.
Ask your child to grab a stuffie and show you how to play ABC School!

Snap Word Rings and Building the Alphabet

If your child moved up a level in the snap word rings, feel free to bring them back to us.  We can reuse them for next year's group.

We worked on rebuilding an ABC chart in partnerships.

Snow Much Fun!

Snow season is finally upon us and in Kindergarten it pays to be prepared.  Please help your child be ready to play in the snow and stay warm outside.  Your child will be most comfortable with:

  • snowpants
  • a warm coat
  • mittens/gloves
  • hat
  • boots
  • indoor shoes (to keep our classroom dry and comfortable)
Please be sure to LABEL every item clearly.  This helps us immensely to keep all of your child's winter gear out of the lost and found!  Thank you for efforts!

You are welcome to leave indoor shoes for your child here at school, just let us know and we will be sure not to repack them everyday!

We will have your child dressed in all of their winter gear to go home at the end of the day so they will be ready to play outside.

Sometimes the snow can get very wet.  If you are able, an extra pair of mittens/gloves and socks is always helpful for the afternoon.

We are always available to help if your child or family needs any winter gear to keep warm this winter.  Please contact us at any time.
